Case Study
Problem
I was paired with a classmate and had to get to know her needs, wishes and overall personality through user research methods.
Solution
I created a big map of insights and a poster that visualises and captures who she is as a person.
Process
Data Gathering
Initially we met in a café and just talked to get familiar. From that meeting I got a basic understanding but there was much more to discover!
Then I formulated 3 main questions guiding me to the research goal:
How does the user show appreciation and acknowledge affection from the people in their social circle?
What cultural norms or values did the users' background and upbringing emphasise on regarding gift-giving practises?
Which activities and preferences contribute to the users' well-being?
First Interview
I prepared a set of questions, and 3 interactive probes that should trigger the user:
empathy mapping (say, think, feel, do)
associative activity sheet
visual storytelling
I observed and asked follow up questions.
Second Interview
I created a diary study probe. Here the user gets a few prompts each day for a week that they need to answer in a diary.
Then I interviewed Vy on the things she wrote.
Being a creative person, she also drew in it.

Data Analysis
Going through the interviews, I created Data Cards from the parts that seemed valuable, like this one:

Research Conclusion
Based on the insights I created a User Portrait, that should reflect Vy as a person and give inspiration to design the gift giving experience.
